Outfit of the day: Big city life

In contrast to my last post (in which I was walking in the countryside), I am now back in the big city and was having a wonder around Manchester, Spinningfields a couple of weekends ago. I decided to get a few pictures of my outfit and wanted to encapture the modern city scenary- thank you to my friend Michael who took them for me!

Dress- New Look

Jumper- Primark

Jacket- Vero Moda

Boots- H&M

Bag- Leather Satchel Company

Necklace- Primark

So I kept the overall outfit pretty simple by layering layering my knitted black jumper over a black shirt dress. The dress is quite flowy and when worn alone flares out at the waist. however, once paired with my jumper I love how the skirt tightens below my waist and the fabric gethers to create large pleates. I wore my trusted military boots, they are seriously made for the colder weather and go with so many of my outfits. My kari green parker was perfect for keeping me warm and my berry coloured satchel from The Leather Satchel Company contrasted really well against the green from the coat making a real statement. A little bit of jewellry was added for some extra detail to the look.

Outfit of the day: take me home country roads

I spent the Christmas break at home in the beautiful Lake District; before returning back to busy city life at the beginning of the week, I managed to get a few outfit snaps up in the fells. I must admit even though I was born and bred in the country, I still have yet to completely master the art of dressing appropriately for the mud and the rain that is so predominant in the Lake District. Anyway, I took full advantage of the scenic views whilst I could and I tried to be as practical as could be; my beloved military boots did double up as great walking boots!!
I promised a few weeks ago I would combine each pop swap haul item (clothing I acquired from a clothes swap event I helped manage) into an outfit. This look includes the silk vintage shirt which I took from the event.

Aviator jacket - River Island
Fur scarf - Abakhans (fabric shop)
Vintage shirt - free/swapped
Jumper - Topshop
Leather trousers - H&M
Military boots - H&M
Necklace - Miss Selfridge

I can't get enough of my grey, sport-chic jumper; it's mega comfy and easy for layering over shirts, as I've done here. I bought the aviator jacket from River Island a few years ago and went off it until recently. I'm not so keen to wear it on its own, but paired with my ultra furry scarf, I've found a new lease of life for it! It almost looks like the scarf is part of the jacket and I like that! I purchased the scarf from Abakhans (a fabric shop chain), I think I payed about £4 for it- it's just a length of fabric! I wear it to death in the winter time; it's easy to just throw on with any of my jackets and it keeps me so warm!
I kept my bottom half black and streamline because the top half of the outfit was quite busy, I didn't want to distract away and clash with that.
I will keep including my 'pop swap items' in my outfits of the day post over the next few weeks!

DIY: Jeweled phone case

After smashing my phone screen front AND back (due to my unfortunate clumsy behaviour), I knew it was time to finally get some protection on my phone and get a case! I adore the phone cases by Skinny Dip, if you haven't seen them, they are decked out in jewels and sparkles and look ever so glam. Feeling inspired and being the creative soul that I am, I wanted to have an attempt at creating my own glitzy case. Here's how it turned out..

I was given the plane iPhone case and jewels as a Christmas gift. I quizzed my Mum as to where she bough it; the case was from a shop on eBay [insert web address] and was only a couple of quid + free delivery. The jewels were from stationary shop, Ryman; though loads of different crafty stores will sell something similar I think! It took me a while to search for glue as I needed something that was strong enough to hold, but didn't set straight away, or else I would end up gluing my fingers together! Anyway, I found the perfect one, Unibond; repair extreme.

I made a plan first by laying the jewels over the case and taking a picture. I then started by sticking the larger jewels on first and worked inwards to outwards. I found it easiest to use tweezers to pick up the jewels and to place & adjust them on to the case. It was quite a time consuming job (it took me about an hour and a half) and you do need a lot of patience. I'm pretty impressed with the case now that it's done; I'm currently awaiting my Blue Peter badge ;) !

I've got plenty of jewels left over, so may have ago at doing another one on a black phone case. Let me know what you think.

Outfit of the Day

I'm still living it up at home in the country side- and there's no better country fashion than a parker coat! This outfit is a result of Christmas presents and January sales treats..

Parker coat- Vero Moda

Jumper- Topshop

Jeans- Glamorous

Chelsea Boots- Topshop

Jewellery- Primark/ Pandora

I struggle to find the balance between dressing practically and fashionably- especially in the winter months when the temperatures have dropped and practicality should be a priority (but with me it usually isn't)!!! However, I feel like I've cracked it with this look. The Parker coat ticks the practical box with its fleece lining and huge hood; the jeans a boots keep things classic and fresh.

How will you be dressing during the colder season?

Lots of love,

Christmas & sales shopping haul

HAPPY 2014!!

I hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I came home to the Lake District to spend the festive period with my family, where I have spent the majority of my time eating copious amounts of Quality Street chocolates and guzzling glasses of Bucks Fizz (January detox is definitely on the cards). I had a very merry Christmas and Santa was good to me this year (no doubt due to my impeccable behaviour ;)). I hope you were all spoilt rotten too :) .. Here's a few of my fave gifts
20140103-223232.jpgViktor & Rolf, Flower Bomb; my all time favourite perfume; such a sweet and feminine scent.

20140103-224009.jpgTopshop, jumper; boyfriend fit and sports chic, everything I need in a jumper right now!

20140103-224640.jpgTopshop, Chelsea boots; in love with these beauties. New favourite boots :)

20140103-230349.jpgiPhone case and jewels; to decorate the iPhone case (seen the amazing Skinny Dip iPhone cases, and told my mum I want to have a go at making my own)! Also in desperate need of a phone case... Screen cracked front AND back...

With Christmas over and done with, there is only one thing January is good for: JANUARY SALES!! So I've had a mooch about town and online and got some pretty good bargains if I do say so myself..

20140103-231558.jpgGlamorous skinny jeans. Were £30, bought for £15

20140103-232007.jpgVero Moda parker. Was £65, bought for £35.50

20140103-232249.jpgASOS fur biker coat. Was £85, bought for £42.50

... So I went a little crazy buying coats, but I live in England and it's cold!! Plus, they were both half price and it would be rude not to really! I will post up an outfit of the day soon, combining my Christmas presents and sales purchases :)
